Seperatist Movements in Mexico

There have been 3 nationalist groups8 in Mexico, including the Republic of the Rio Grande, Texas Revolution, and the Zapatista Army of National Liberation.

Republic of the Rio Grande

The Republic of the Rio Grande was founded in January 17, 1840. It was very unsuccessful, as it was dissolved on November 6 of the same year.
The Republic of the Rio Grande was an attempt made by the leaders of Tamaulipas, Nuevo Loeon, and Coahuila to break away from Mexico's government, which was centralistic at that point.9

Texas Revolution

The Texas Revolution lasted from October 1835 to April 1836. The purpose of this revolution was the Texans wanting independence from Mexico. The Revolution ended with the founding of the Republic of Texas.

Zapatista Army

According to the Australian Institute of International Affairs 10 the Zapatistas demanded equality. The Zapatistas are armed Indigenous people in Mexico. They declared war on the Mexican government on January 1, 1994, demanding work, housing, food, education, democracy and peace, to list a few. The Zapatistas are based in Chiapas, which has the highest percentage of Indigenous people, standing at 27.2% of the state's total population. If they even make money, they are lucky. Malnourishment rates with Indigenous people are also very high.
